What is the commodity that any small business has? - the individual person providing the service.

That person could be a sole trader or an employee of the business, but iether way the customer deals with the individual as a person.

If it's a builder for example the customer will make recommendations if the builder has been punctual, clean and tidy and done a good job of the building work and it will be the builder by name who is recommended, the firm he works for is incidental.

I was considering making anvil.uk.net my business web-site and anvil.me my personal and hobbies web-site but decided not to do so as my web-site building business' main asset is me and my expertise and willingness to include consultation as part of the service.

I've been looking into marketing Anvil and learned that there's lots of techniques that can be used to promote a business but the best and most honest is to be yourself and talk to your customers about the service they want, they are individuals too.
